Local 776 again is offering safety vests emblazoned wit the Teamster Logo. Show your Teamster Pride while being safe. The vests are available in: Medium, Large, XL, 2XL, 3XL, and 4XL for $25.00. The vests are available for pick up at the Harrisburg Union Hall during normal business hours.

Be Seen, Be Safe!

Coming to the picnic on Sunday? From the looks of registration quite a few of you are! After the year it’s been what better way for things to “open up” than a picnic with family, friends, and co-workers.

Our photographer will be roaming the grounds taking plenty of photos, but it is a big place and there will be plenty of people there, how about helping him out? Show your Teamster Pride: wear your Teamster gear, hats, shirts, etc so he can easily spot you.

If you’re taking photos while there how about sharing your photos with other Teamsters? E-mail us your photos and we will post them on the Local Union website in a gallery for member photos. Send your photos to:

Can you recall what you were doing when you were nineteen? Were you in college, the military, getting married? Larry Corbin was nineteen when he went to work for Metals USA; and after forty-seven and a half years, Larry is ready to move on! Larry retired on May 28; he is looking forward to retirement, he plans to stay active and enjoy the time not working. With five kids and two grandkids, they will make sure Larry is active! As summer begins, Larry can be found in Delaware flounder fishing and swimming.

Recognizing a good employee when they have one, Metals USA didn’t want Larry to leave, they bought a new, air conditioned forklift to try and entice him to staying on! But on may 28^th Larry traded the forklift controls for the fishing boat’s controls!

From everyone at Local 776 congratulations Larry! May you have as many years enjoying retirement as the number of years you worked for it!

By now, you have probably seen the Locals newly designed and “wrapped” truck. Maybe you were at the May membership meeting when it was first unveiled to the members, saw it on the website, or caught a glimpse of it going down the road. On behalf of the Officers, Business Agents, staff, and myself, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day. As you spend the day with family and friends, or just relaxing at home, please take a moment to remember the service men and women who gave their lives protecting the freedoms, rights, and liberty that we all enjoy in our great country. Also, please keep a place in your heart for our service men and women who so proudly serve to preserve the rights and liberties that others made the ultimate sacrifice for.

You can see “Teamster Pride” in many different ways; members displaying their pride in their Union by wearing shirts, caps, and jackets emblazoned with the Teamsters Local 776 Logo. The Officers, and the Agents at Local 776 take pride in what we do; the service we provide to the members, pride in the contracts we negotiate and enforce for them. We take pride in the Local Union’s vehicles; having them properly serviced and keeping up their appearance; they are a direct reflection on who we are. We take pride in our buildings and grounds; maintaining both Union Halls so the members can be proud to call it their Union Hall, and also being good neighbors in the community, by keeping the grounds neat and clean. With that in mind, a “clean up” day at the Harrisburg Union Hall was on the calendar to take care of normal spring maintenance. The Officers and Agents rolled up their sleeves, grabbed a rake, a shovel, a trimmer and got to it. When the dust settled and the debris hauled away, our pride in our Union was shining for all to see!

At the conclusion of the May membership meeting, the Local Union treated those in attendance to lunch. “Up in Smoke” was on site dishing out pulled pork or beef brisket sandwiches along with macaroni and cheese, and baked beans. From the satisfied looks of everyone, it must have been good food; the plates in the trash were empty!

“Providing social time is an important part of serving the membership, everyone needs to have time to share with their Brothers and Sisters away from the work place. After the year we have all been through its good to see a sense of normalcy return,” commented Local President Ed Thompson.

Local 776 unveiled their newly adorned tractor-trailer to the membership at the May monthly meeting. The truck was last “wrapped” in 2009, and was showing signs of age. A “wrap” typically lasts 7-8 years, ours was due for a refitting.

The “theme” of the new wrap remembers our Teamster history as we create our future, and honors our troops as they defend our freedoms. The tractor cab affirms our motto of “People Helping People”.

The Local is proud to have such a vehicle to represent us and to serve our communities in times of need. The new, bright color scheme is quite a sight going down the road and has already brought comments from those getting a glimpse of it. If you happen to see the rig going down the road honk to let the drivers know you’re a Teamster!!
