  • On Friday May 10, 2019 Local 776 participated in Vehicular Career Day at Hillside Elementary School in New Cumberland, PA.  Local 776  Driver, Rich Stover, and Organizer Mark Cicak were on hand with the Local’s truck to help the students in kindergarten through 5th grade climb up in the cab and get a view of the "road" from a big rig and ask questions.  There were over 25 different vehicles in attendance including a police car, fire truck, army vehicle, food truck, dump truck, hearse, construction vehicles and utility vehicles.  Over 600 students came through the event.

“These kids are our future leaders, work force, and quite possibly Teamster Members” Commented Local President Ed Thompson. “It’s important that we as a Local Union support these community events to let the public know who we are and what we do. I would like to thank both Rich and Mark for finding the time in their schedules to make this a memorable experience for the kids.”

Local 776 Driver Rich Stover had everyone's attention as he explained how the truck operates

Rich got down at eye level with the kids to first answer questions.....

....And then helped them get up in the cab and see the "road" from a driver's viewpoint!

On April 28th the York-Adams County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO observes Worker’s Memorial Day; in honor and remembrance of those who have been injured or died on the job.  Tragically, eleven work place deaths occurred in York County in 2018. Every worker has the right to a safe and healthy workplace.  The labor movement continues to fight for workers’ health and safety.

In conjunction with Worker’s Memorial Day the Labor council sponsors an essay contest for High School Seniors. This year’s winner, Brennan Romanoff, who attends New Oxford High School High School, wrote on workplace safety and the Employers' responsibility to provide safe working conditions to employees.

In honor of their fallen brothers who perished fighting a structure fire in 2018 the York City Fire Department Honor Guard presented the colors.

Eleven candles symbolize the eleven lives lost in 2019.

Workers Memorial Day Essay Contest finalist Brennan Romanoff accepts his award from

Linda Sanders Vice-President, York Adams County Central Labor Concil.

The laying of a wreath on the waters edge signifies the passing of the eleven fallen.

Congressional leaders met with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss infrastructure, and the labor movement stands united in our message: Enough talk. It’s time to rebuild America.

This should be a no-brainer: Every $1 invested in infrastructure generates $3.70 in economic growth. When we invest in infrastructure, we create jobs, increase productivity, and make our neighborhoods stronger and safer.

Inaction is the greatest cost. While Washington debates how to move forward, Americans are footing the bill—an additional $3,000-plus every year per family.

The entire labor movement supports a federal infrastructure package that fixes our nation’s crumbling roads, bridges and transit systems, respects prevailing wage, and puts union men and women on job sites across the country.

“Despite widespread calls to act—from the people who build our infrastructure to the folks who rely on it every single day; after all of the studies and reports outlining this urgent crisis, and notwithstanding overwhelming public support and outcry for increased investments—no meaningful action has been taken to put us on a course to correct decades of chronic underinvestment.” —AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

t’s Infrastructure Week, a time to call on our elected leaders to rebuild and modernize America’s crumbling infrastructure.

This year’s Infrastructure Week comes at a time when 79% of voters say investing in America’s infrastructure is a top priority.

Here is what inaction is costing us:

    • Roads: 44% of major roadways are in poor or mediocre condition, which costs Americans about $533 every year in car repairs.
    • Bridges: More than 47,000 bridges have been declared “structurally deficient.” It would take an estimated 80 years to fix every one.
    • Water: Six billion gallons of treated water are lost every day due to broken infrastructure. More than $200 billion in economic activity would be generated by closing the water infrastructure gap.

Inaction is costing Americans an average of $3,000 every year.

It’s time to tell Washington to stop delaying. Take action and fix our infrastructure. Learn more at Infrastructure Week.
