The York-Adams County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, conducted their annual fishing derby on Labor Day at Kiwanis Lake in York, PA. Former Local 776 Business Agent Dave Wolf, now retired, came out of retirement to attend the event on behalf of Local 776.

Dave reports on the event: “This year we had a good turnout with registration and fishing starting at 8:00 a.m. Prizes were given for ages 1 through 8 and 9 through 15. The largest fish caught was 26 inches. Prizes were also given to those who caught the most fish, etc. Afterward, all the age groups that participated received a new fishing rod and reel donated by Teamsters Local 776. Special thanks to Local 776 for supplying cold water and of course the new fishing rods that put a smile on all the participant's faces."

Commented Local 776 President Ed Thompson; “I would like to thank Dave for taking the time from retirement to represent the Local at this community event. His actions are the embodiment of the phrase we so proudly support “People Helping People” Additionally I would like to thank Local 776 BA Bill Olmeda for taking the time to to purchase the new fishing rod and reel combos that were presented to the kids.

Big smiles to go with their new equipment!

    They're proud of their trophies!

His smile is almost as big as the fish he caught!

On the 23rd Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks Never Forget:

…The cowardly acts perpetrated against our country by those who seek to destroy us and our way of life.

…The innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives on this tragic day; only for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

…Our courageous first responders; who ran toward the disasters to offer help to those in need and perished while trying to help and serve their fellow Americans.

Most of us can recall where we were that tragic day, what we were doing as we first got word of the attacks on our country, and stood in shock as we watched the Twin Towers in New York City crumble.

Our Country may have been down, and many countries would have crumbled under such crushing blows, but while we watched in horror as the events unfolded before our eyes, our strength and resolve grew and we became a determined people to punish those who promote terrorism and to make sure this tragedy would never happen again.

Please take a moment today to pause and remember those who perished on 9/11. Remember our first responders who face danger daily, and finally remember and thank our armed forces; both here at home and deployed around the world ensuring that America remains the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

    Fraternally,

    Ed Thompson

The Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) recently hosted the 27th annual John Hiestand Memorial Antique Truck Show in Carlisle, Pa. on August 31st. Local 776 Members, the father-son duo of Jeff and Kraig Keller, invited Local 776 to participate. Local 776 Vice-President Chalmer Edgin and Member Austin O’Brien, both drivers of the Local’s truck, spent the day hanging out with and greeting the owners and drivers of the many trucks that were on display. Many of the trucks were retired freight trucks from Union carriers of the past! While The Local’s tractor is not an antique just yet, it was welcomed to the event, allowing show spectators to view and compare vehicles from different eras.

The Susquehanna Chapter of the ATHS was founded in 1992. Currently, Kraig serves as President, and his father, Jeff serves as Treasurer. The chapter currently has 110 members that meet once a month. In addition to the truck show other social events are held including an annual picnic for the members. Many Members own, restore, and maintain antique trucks but it is not a requirement for membership, just an interest in antique trucks and to meet with others who share that interest! If you’re interested in learning more about the Local Chapter Kraig can be reached at 717-332-7669.

Commented Local 776 President Ed Thompson: "Thanks to Kraig and Jeff for the invitation to the show. As the motto on the Local’s trailer states, “Our History Creates Our Future.” Participating in the show helps the public remember the Teamsters Union is a large part of the Trucking Industry past and present"

Local 776 VP Chalmer Edgin gave spectators a view of and answered questions about the Local’s truck.

“On behalf of the officers, agents, staff, and myself I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Labor Day. American Labor; it’s what built this great country of ours. America became a world leader thanks to the men and women who built it. No matter where you work or what you do your effort is part of the big picture; shaping your and your families’ lives so that our children, our future leaders, can use what we provided them to better themselves, and so on for the next generation. That’s what makes our country so great, building the American dream. For the American Worker today is your day, Be proud of what you do, and take a moment to reflect on what you do and how it impacts your family and those around you.

    Fraternally,

    Ed Thompson,

    President Teamsters Local 776

Recently Brad Miller retired from the Red Lion (Pa), Municipal Water Authority after 32 years on the job as a Teamster Member. During his time on the job, Brad was a long-time Local 430 and Local 776 Union Steward. While working for the Water Authority Brad worked in the filtration dept., repaired water line breaks, performed general service on the water lines, and maintained nine sanitary sewer stations. Brad and his wife Wendy have one child and one grandchild. With Brad around more since retiring, they will all be looking for some additional quality time with him.

Being retired will allow Brad to spend more time with his hobbies, primarily hunting but with a little fishing mixed in to keep him active. Brad and Wendy spend time camping with their travel trailer and have been out twice already this year. Looking back on his 32 years with the Teamsters Brad stated that “it was great working with the Teamster establishment.”

From everyone at Local 776 congratulations on your retirement Brad, 32 years is quite an accomplishment. May you enjoy every day of your retirement!

Local 776 BA Bill Olmeda (L)  presents Brad with his retirement watch commemorating 32 years as a Teamster Member.

Recently Local 776 mailed the August 2024 edition of the "776 Review" to the Membership. Did yours get lost in the mail? Perhaps you were on vacation and it got overlooked when you went through all of your mail. We're not going to mention the dog, although it happens!

Fear not! the "776 Review" is available for download, it can be found on the "Member Resources" page of the website under downloads. You can download, view, and print the newsletter.

It was a hot muggy day in Central PA last Sunday, about what you would expect for the beginning of August. The only thing hotter than the weather was the competition at Eagles Crossing Golf Course in Carlisle. Some of Local 776’s finest teed it up on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Eagles Crossing Golf Course in Carlisle. Members were out to enjoy a day of friendship, food, prizes, and good-natured head-to-head competition. There was plenty of friendly competition on the course but bragging rights were on the line as members vied for first place in their respective flights, close to the pin competition, and longest drive. After the last putt dropped and the divots had all been replaced, the members enjoyed a steak dinner while they talked about the errant shot, the putt that would not drop, and all things golf while the scores were tallied.

As is the custom at Local 776 events, a 50/50 drawing was held to support the 776 Scholarship Fund. This year’s winner was Dave Bloss from UPS. The $500 Eagles Crossing Gift Card was also won by Dave Bloss! Talk about getting up on the right side of the bed, this guy had luck smiling on him today!

Some guys have all the luck!

Think you’ve got what it takes to tee up with these guys? We’ll be doing it again next year, so work on your game, get a foursome together, and come on out for a day of great golf, great food, and great fellowship!
