Teamsters Local 776 has scheduled two days of informational meetings for our newest Members working at United Natural Foods, Inc., to familiarize them with their new insurance coverage. Please see below for full details:

On June 30, 2025, Local 776 President Edgar Thompson, Business Agent Spencer Dearth, and Thomas Doyle, State Program Director of the IBT, met with Pennsylvania State Representatives at the State Capitol Building to discuss issues affecting both Local 776 members and general Union issues. In attendance were Representatives Dave Delloso, Patrick Harkins, Steve Malagari, Dan Williams, Jim Haddock, and Dan Goughnour, A few of the topics discussed included impact of autonomous trucks on Union jobs and public safety, ongoing heat-related issues at UPS, and a recent workplace incident at York County Prison, which affected Local 776 members and remains under investigation. Thanks to the strength of the Local’s DRIVE Chapter and its contributing Members, access to these State Representatives was granted to address these issues and for the overall betterment of our members and the Labor movement.

L-R: Local 776 BA Spencer Dearth, IBT State Program Director Thomas Doyle, and Local 776 President Ed Thompson meet with PA State Representatives to discuss Labor issues.

Steve Ferry retired from Amsted Rail on June 27th after a 42-year career. Steve was a long-haul truck driver before settling in at Amsted Rail, and 42 years later, he’s retired! Steve worked as a forklift driver and in assembly for a while, but the majority of his time was spent running CNC lathe machining centers. As technology advanced, he worked with robots on the shop floor.

Steve and his wife Brenda have been married for 36 years and have a son living in Pittsburgh. Now that he has some free time, Steve hopes to spend more time fishing, chasing Smallmouth Bass in the Susquehanna River, and devote more time to digital photography. He and Brenda plan on traveling the United States with trips planned to Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons, along with trips to Vermont and New Hampshire, where they’ll visit Mount Washington.

Looking back, Steve reflected: It was nice being a Teamster. Ron Hicks was a good Business Agent. I enjoyed the friendships I made with my co-workers over the years and my time at Amsted.

Congratulations, Steve, enjoy your retirement, best of luck in your travels visiting our great country!

Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks is still busy handing out hardware; here he congratulates Member Steve Ferry and presents him with his retirement watch!

    Subject: UPDATE ON BANKRUPTCY MAILING

    Good Morning,

In response to calls from the former Yellow members regarding the most recent mailing, I wanted to clarify a few things.

The mailing was sent to around 4,600 people and only those that need to reconcile their claims within the bankruptcy court received the mailing. If they did not receive a letter, they did not need to; there is nothing to do and they are still included on our claim it is just for those that are shown to have several claims within the court or if there is a discrepancy on the amount they’ve listed. If members would like to know what amount we filed for on their behalf they can follow the steps below to view our submitted claims.

    Visit: https://dm.epiq11.com/case/yellowcorporation/claims

    Search under “Creditor” for “TNFINC”

The National Negotiating Committee filed four separate claims, one for each of the employers, on behalf of those members active at the time of their closure. Below is also a list of the claim numbers.

CLAIM #5336                     IBT AND TNFINC               New Penn Motor Express LLC

CLIAM #5337                     IBT AND TNFINC               USF Reddaway Inc

CLAIM #5338                     IBT AND TNFINC               USF Holland LLC

CLAIM #5400                     IBT AND TNFINC               YRC Inc

Within each of the claims, it includes 4 claims for each of the operating companies – 1.) WARN Act; 2.) Vacation Pay; 3.) Sick Pay; and 4.) State WARN Act. Members can find what we have for them individually within the documents which are separated by the “claim”, then sorted by Local Union and then alphabetically by last name, first name.

If they filed their own individual claim they will be allowed to search by their name under “Creditor” but it should be noted they will only be entitled to one claim in the bankruptcy court.

There are no updates at this time. The claims are all still within the bankruptcy court with no payment scheduled at this time; this includes the WARN Act and any other sick or vacation pay they may be entitled to.

FULL-TIME UPSers: DON’T MISS MONDAY UPDATE. All full-time UPS Teamsters are strongly encouraged to join Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien on Monday evening for important updates on the company’s contract-violating plan for buyouts. Remember: UPS is obligated to create at least 22,500 new permanent positions under our current agreement, not to try to thin the workforce by dangling paltry, insulting payoffs to drivers to walk away.
Stay informed. Enforce the contract. Say NO to UPS. Hear directly from Sean on Monday, July 7, 8 pm ET/5 pm PT at Youtube.com/TeamsterPower and on the UPS Teamsters app.

    Happy Birthday, America!

On behalf of the Officers, Business Agents, and Staff of Local 776, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July. America is the greatest country on earth; we enjoy freedoms, liberties, and rights unmatched in the world. The Fourth of July officially marks the beginning of summer. Many of us will celebrate with family and friends at the beach, in our backyards, or at community fireworks displays. No matter how you plan to spend the July 4th Holiday, please join me in wishing our great Nation a Happy Birthday!

    Fraternally,

    Ed Thompson,

    President, Teamsters Local 776

Recently, four Members retired from their respective employers. This group is a testament to good-paying, good-benefit Teamster jobs. Combined, these individuals have over 160 years of Teamsters Membership! Local 776 Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks has been busy handing out the hardware to the following Members:

Sean Ferguson: Sean retired May 1st from UPS after 40 years of service. Like most long-term UPS employees, Sean started with UPS as a part-time employee unloading trailers. When a full-time position became available, he moved to the sort aisle, then became an air driver, finally gaining a spot as a package car driver. Now that he’s retired, Sean has time to devote to some of his interests beyond his work. He plans to spend more time freshwater fishing in the area, riding motorcycles, and doing some four-wheeling. Sean is easing into retirement slowly, adjusting to having his time, eventually traveling and seeing the world. Sean commented: “I love all the guys I worked with, I made a lot of friends in those 40 years, I’m going to miss them!”

Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks congratulates Sean on his retirement.

Terry Newman: Terry Newman retired from Amsted Rail on June 24th after 39 years with the company. Terry began his tenure with Amsted Rail as a CNC machine operator for 27 years and then spent the next 12 years as a tooling attendant. He served as a Local 776 Union Steward for a time and has always strived to be a good Teamster..

Now that he’s retired, Terry plans to pick up his golf clubs again and get back out on the golf course. He also plans to give bowling a try. Terry and his wife Deborah have been married for 28 years. They both enjoy visiting Atlantic City, NJ, and have been known to frequent the Penn National Race Course.

Terry had been off work on disability before retirement. He was sad that he didn’t get to say goodbye to everyone at Amsted, so in a way, this is his goodbye to all the friends he made while working there.

Terry gets a watch and a handshake from S/T Ron Hicks

Steve Ney: Steve retired March 1st from a road driver position at ABF Freight after 40 years. In his career, Steve has accumulated over three million miles behind the wheel, along with more than 30 years of safe driving.. Steve and his wife, Denise, have been married for 45 years and have two sons, Kyle and Kip.

Now that retirement is providing more free time at home, Steve can devote more time to hunting and fishing, as well as working in the vegetable garden. Also, there will be more time for him and Denise to vacation at the beach, one of their favorite pastimes.

Steve added, “I’d recommend a Teamster job to anyone. The pay, benefits, and security are unparalleled. I want to thank Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks and all the Officers and Agents at Local 776 for all that they do; many times, it’s a thankless job.

Steve is all smiles after receiving his watch from Ron!

Rick Shellenberger: Rick retired from ABF Freight on March 1st. After accumulating 40.5 years in the freight industry, the last 22 years were spent at ABF. During his time in the freight industry, Rick worked for Consolidated Freightways and New Penn before settling in at ABF. Over the years, Rick amassed an impressive driving record: he had accrued a total of three million miles and 37 years of safe driving. Both accomplishments are to be proud of!

Rick and his wife, Rebecca, a retired nurse, have two children: Amanda and Justin. Since Rick retired, they have been spending time on the road, camping with their fifth-wheel travel trailer. After spending three weeks in Florida, their goal is to travel as much as possible in the next 5-6 years, exploring the country. After that, they might consider cruising to stay active. When I caught up to Rick somewhere on the road, he added: “I’m enjoying retirement and wish everyone well. I hope Unions are around for a long time!”

A handshake and a watch as Ron congratulates Rick on retirement

Congratulations from Everyone at Local 776, gentlemen! May you enjoy every day of your retirement!

On Friday, June 27, former employees of Yellow who filed individual proofs of claim outside of TNFINC's filing were mailed the attached notice. Each individual's letter included a "Claim Details Form" specific to their claim. They should complete the form as instructed and return it in the enclosed envelope that was provided. This is part of the claim reconciliation process. As a general update, we do not have an expected payout date and would not be able to provide an estimated date of payout.
    Thank you.

Additional copies of this letter can be downloaded from the "Downloads" section of the website found under Member Resources.
