    Yellow Zoom Call

On Wednesday, July 19th a press conference and rally were held in support of UPS Teamsters to help pressure UPS to get back to the table and negotiate the contract that our members deserve. The opening remarks were made by LaRue Hess USW Local 1688 and Teamsters Local 776 Business Agent and member of the UPS Teamsters National Negotiating Committee David Licht. Following the opening remarks, all the State Representatives in attendance spoke and offered their full support to UPS Teamsters. In addition to the State Representatives two Dauphin County Commissioners, the Mayor of Harrisburg, and one member of the Harrisburg City Council attended to show their support for UPS Teamsters. Building relationships with members of local and state government has been a long-standing practice of Local 776 so we can better represent our members.

IBT General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman attended and made the closing remarks before heading to UPS. “UPS sees how united and strike-ready our members are, and the company is getting scared,” Zuckerman said. “They should be scared. And they should be ready to give us an acceptable offer when we return to negotiations in Washington D.C. next week. If they don’t, this won’t be practice anymore.” Zuckerman joined rank-and-file UPS Teamsters practice picketing, walked the line with Local 776 members in Harrisburg, and spoke with rank-and-filers about the status of negotiations.

The local 776 Tractor trailer lead the way, with the Tractor-Trailer from Teamsters Local 107 following behind the March.

As thousands of UPS Teamsters practice picket, rally, and mobilize around the country, UPS bowed on July 19th to the overwhelming show of Teamster unity and reached out to the union to resume negotiations. The Teamsters National Negotiating Committee and the company will set dates soon to resume negotiations next week.

The Teamsters agreement with UPS is the largest private-sector union contract in North America. UPS Teamsters are demanding the strongest possible contract or are prepared to strike with rank-and-file members authorizing a strike by 97 percent.

Rank-and-file UPS Teamsters, General President Sean M. O’Brien, and Teamsters Local 804 President Vinnie Perrone rallied in Long Island Saturday morning as the national strike deadline nears.

"UPS has a choice," O'Brien said. "They can respect and do right by working people, they can pay the wages that part-time and full-time workers deserve, and they can agree to terms on a strong new contract. Or UPS can wait until August 1 and regret turning its back on the hardworking people who make it a success. We are not backing down. We will take on this corporate bully for as long as it takes to get what we’ve earned.”

"Our members bust their ass every day for this greedy company, keeping supply chains moving and generating historic, multibillion-dollar profits for UPS," Perrone said. "Those record profits are unpaid wages. UPS Teamsters are done with the company's disrespect."

"UPS is not ready for this fight and they are not taking it seriously. But UPS forgets-it’s the Teamsters who actually run this company. This is our livelihood. And we take nothing more serious than the battle before us. This fight is bigger than any one member. It's about ending part-time poverty and not allowing UPS to further degrade good union jobs, turning our work into gig side hustles. This is a fight we must win to protect the future of good-paying, dignified careers at UPS. The Teamsters will hold the line against corporate greed at this company, and we will fight like hell to keep the power in the workers’ pockets," O'Brien said.

More than 340,000 UPS Teamsters nationwide are more united, organized, and militant than at any time in UPS history. The message from today's rally was clear: whether there is a strike is entirely up to UPS. Either way, Teamsters are ready-and we will win.

Please join General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman for an important member webinar on the latest news for the UPS #Teamsters contract campaign. The webinar will take place on Sunday, July 16, at 12 pm ET. With negotiations at a standstill and less than 20 days left to contract expiration, we urge all rank-and-file members at UPS to tune in to this update on strike preparations and next steps. Members who register and join the webinar will have an opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from Sean and Fred. All UPS Teamsters are strongly encouraged to join this webinar. Teamsters at TForce Freight are holding actions throughout the week as they enter the homestretch of negotiations for a new national contract. At TForce terminals in every region of the country, rank-and-file members are building a powerful worker movement to address the top bargaining issues and chart a new course for the entire freight industry.

“Every local with members at TForce have been working hard to encourage engagement,” said John A. Murphy, Teamsters National Freight Director. “Our members are standing together to win a strong national contract. The company knows what they’re up against. Our unity is on full display."

Local 776 Officers, Business Agents, and our Organizer were at TForce Freight supporting the members as they came and went throughout the day. The Member's message was clear; they stand united in their fight for a new agreement that reflects their value!

Since March, the Teamsters National Freight Industry Negotiating Committee (TNFINC) has been working hard to bargain a new contract. On June 16, Teamsters at TForce Freight voted overwhelmingly, by 91 percent, to authorize a strike, delivering a strong mandate that reflects the strength and unity of the members’ fight for a strong national contract.

The current agreement expires July 31. The Teamsters represent more than 7,000 workers at TForce nationwide.

“Teamsters at TForce Freight know what it takes to win at the table. They have spoken loud and clear that they are ready to take on this company if they don’t get the best agreement possible,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “Our members are the backbone of this company and essential to keeping the nation’s supply chain moving. They deserve to be rewarded with a contract that reflects their value.”

The Teamsters are commitment to raising the bar for all workers in the freight industry. On June 15, Teamster local union leaders endorsed a new tentative agreement at ABF Freight for more than 8,500 members. Freight Teamsters are committed to continuing the winning streak next month at TForce.

“In our latest bargaining session, we saw a lot of promising developments with the resolution of key issues and productive exchanges of proposals,” said Kris Taylor, Co-Chair of TNFINC at TForce Freight. “We are working hard and making progress towards reaching a comprehensive agreement that addresses the concerns and priorities of all Teamsters at TForce Freight.”

Negotiations will resume June 26 in Ft. Worth, Texas.

UPS Teamster practice picketing actions are growing in scope, organization, and militancy. With no additional negotiations scheduled since UPS walked away from bargaining, members of the National Negotiating Committee-including local union officers and rank-and-filers are fanning out to our locals and UPS barns to intensify strike preparations.

In the last 24 hours, more practice picket lines have gone up in New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, Missouri, Idaho, and other parts of the country. UPS Teamster locals will receive strike captain details and resources in the next few days.

    Dear Teamster Brothers and Sisters:

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, we held a press conference announcing that there had been great progress at the negotiating table but told UPS that we must receive a fair and equitable contract proposal by no later than July 5th.

The General Executive Board of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has passed a resolution calling on elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels to prove their support for UPS Teamsters.

The resolution demands that elected officials, including U.S. senators and representatives, commit to not intervening in the event of a lawful strike and to stay out of the bargaining process between the Teamsters and UPS. Tell your Representatives and Senators to join the growing list of public officials who are choosing to stand beside our hardworking brothers and sisters.

Click here to urge your elected official to respect collective bargaining and stand with UPS Teamsters.

    In solidarity,

-General President O'Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Zuckerman

Earlier today, UPS walked away from the bargaining table after presenting an unacceptable offer to the Teamsters that did not address members’ needs. The UPS Teamsters National Negotiating Committee unanimously rejected the package.

Following marathon negotiations, UPS refused to give the Teamsters a last, best, and final offer, telling the union the company had nothing more to give.

“This multibillion-dollar corporation has plenty to give American workers-they just don’t want to,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “UPS had a choice to make, and they have clearly chosen to go down the wrong road.”

The UPS Teamsters contract covering more than 340,000 full and part-time workers expires July 31. No additional negotiations are scheduled.

The Teamsters have repeatedly made clear that UPS members will not work beyond the expiration of the current contract. In June, rank-and-file UPS Teamsters authorized a strike by an overwhelming 97 percent.
