  • UPS and UPS Freight Members: Local 776 has scheduled numerous meetings to review the UPS and UPS Freight tentative agreements before being voted on by the members. Full details for both meetings can be found below. Please plan to attend one of these important meetings. You  may attend any meeting art any location.

Attached is a notice to all ABF Local Unions sent by the National Freight Division, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Well it's that time again; time to dust off the golf clubs, clean the turf from your spikes, and practice that swing because we're teeing it up for the Local 776 Golf Tournament. Bragging rights will be on the line; who hit it the farthest, the straightest, who got the hole in one, and what foursome out did the rest! Mark your calendar, make your reservation, the spots fill up quickly!

On July 3rd, 2018 the Teamsters Central PA supplemental negotiating committee reached a tentative agreement with UPS on their agreement. In accordance with guidelines established by the IBT no details of the tentative agreement will be released until the remaining supplemental committees have reached a tentative agreement with UPS.

Check back for further information as it becomes available as to dates and times for membership meetings at which both the national agreement and the Central PA supplemental agreement will be reviewed with Local Union Officials. Negotiations continue with UPS and the respective negotiating committees of the UPS Freight and UPS Cartage Services agreements.Updates on the status of UPS Freight and UPS Cartage Services Agreements will be released as they become available.

The IBT has scheduled a contract update teleforum call for members to learn more about the contract:

When UPS members were asked to provide the National Negotiating Committee with their requests for a new contract, the following items were most frequently raised from every Local Union:

Reduce the number of hours package car drivers are required to work

Prevent the Company from forcing package car drivers to work weekends

Ensure that package car drivers can take more time off

Protect our medical and pension plans

The language negotiated to create new combination drivers addresses each of these issues.

Janus Decision Is a Setback for Working People and Their Families

(WASHINGTON) – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court sided with anti-union advocates attempting to undercut the rights of millions of public employees to negotiate with their employers for a fair return on the value of their work.

By backing the plaintiffs in “Janus v. AFSCME,” the high court’s decision is an attempt to limit the collective voices of not only government workers, but those in the private sector as well.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling is at a time when so many Americans are struggling just to make ends meet,” Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said. “The Teamsters and our allies in the labor movement will redouble our efforts to ensure that working men and women have a voice on the job through strong unions.”

The median salary for working people represented by labor unions is $11,000 a year more than non-union people who have no right to negotiate.

“By overturning 40 years of judicial precedent, conservative judges endorsed an agenda supported by corporations and the wealthiest in our society to take away the right of public employees to negotiate over wages, benefits and working conditions,” said Michael Filler, Director of the Teamsters’ Public Services Division.

On Saturday June 23, 2018 Local 776 sponsored a retirement seminar targeted for members who plan to retire in the next three to five years. In his opening remarks Local 776 President Ed Thompson stressed the importance of planning for retirement; “Many of the members here today have over thirty years with the Teamsters pension fund. Retirement is a life step and must be planned accordingly. With the help of Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks in sponsoring this seminar we are honoring our commitment to provide the members with the additional services they desire”.

Along with representatives from the Central PA Teamsters Pension Fund and New Cumberland Federal Credit Union additional representatives were in attendance:

Each of the above companies offers different services that may be beneficial to explore before you make your final decision. They are all eager to help our members navigate the very complex issues of investing, healthcare, insurance, and Medicare. Reach out to them, they may provide you with an option that is beneficial to you, they can also give you a second opinion or confirm you are on the right track. whatever you choose make informed decisions, and Enjoy Your Retirement!
