A great day for a picnic! You couldn’t ask for better weather; a clear blue sky, a gentle breeze to keep you comfortable, plenty of food, and baseball! Teamster members and their families were out in force on Sunday June 12th enjoying the Local’s family picnic. There was plenty of good food and treats for everyone. To the delight of their fans the hometown Harrisburg Senators fought back to win the baseball game in the bottom of the ninth inning over the visiting Akron Rubber Ducks. A great end to a great day!

“This is what it’s all about; family, friends, being able to relax and have a good time.” Commented Local 776 president Ed Thompson. “It’s great to see so many of our members here today; no matter where you work or what you do we are all Teamsters and we come together as one”

Teamsters from the tri-state area, members of SEIU, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division, community allies, and store owners rallied on June 8, 2016 outside Philadelphia’s City Hall to protest the proposed soda tax. While Coca Cola, Pepsi, Canada Dry trucks and Teamster 18-wheelers circled city hall, rank-and-file Teamsters held signs saying, “No More Taxes”.

“This soda tax is a regressive tax that will hurt our industry,” said Bill Hamilton, Teamsters International Vice President. “The issue has never been about health and we will all end up paying for this tax with the job losses that will occur if the mayor’s soda tax is passed.”

“When the call for help comes in, we head out”, commented Local 776 President Ed Thompson. “Local 776 is proud to be here supporting our Teamster Brothers and Sisters as they fight to keep their jobs in the soft drink industry”.

All eyes are on Local 776!

On Saturday, May 21, 2016, the Harrisburg Senators baseball team honored local Military members. The evening was created in order to celebrate our local Heroes. There was a Military Hero baseball card set created to honor those selected. It was given to the first 1,000 fans that entered FNB Field. Two Local 776 Teamsters were included in the celebration of our finest. David Licht, A Local 776 Business Agent, served in the U.S. Army and Chad Sener, a UPS feeder driver at the Harrisburg, PA hub, served in the U.S. Air force. Thank you both for your service to our great country! The honorees were selected through a nomination process. Families and friends nominated their serviceman or woman and provided the Senators with details of their service plus photos in uniform.

On May 20, 2016 Local 776 was on display at Career Day at Hillside Elementary School in New Cumberland, PA. Local 776 driver Rich Stover and Organizer Mark Cicak were on hand to talk about the Teamsters Union and answer questions. Every student had the chance to get up in the truck and look around and imagine going down the road.

When asked about the school visit Local President Ed Thompson remarked; “This is the second opportunity the Local Union has had this spring to reach out to the children in the community by participating in a school event. These kids are our future and it is up to us to help them prepare for their future endeavors”. If your child’s school is planning a career day Local 776 would be proud to participate. Please contact the Local Union with the pertinent information and every effort will be made to honor your request.”
