A National Right to Work bill has been introduced in the House. This legislation, H.R. 785, will have real consequences for working men and women across the country. Right to Work laws drive down wages and decrease workplace safety. In states that have enacted Right to Work laws, the impact is clear:

Average Annual wages are nearly $5,000 lower.

Workplace death rates are 52% higher.

The uninsured population is 20% higher.

While these mass emails are effective in alerting your representatives to your oppostion to this legislation the best way to contact your representatives is with a personal letter. The war on workers; it continues daily. Bad trade deals, companies moving manufacturing overseas, workers rights to organize and bargain collectively under attack. Yet there are some who say these things don't matter, that workers don't need Unions anymore. The War on Workers isn't something that was just made up; it is real and affects all workers daily. Abraham Lincoln recognized the importance of labor and was quick to defend it in the quote below:

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded a $10,000 Scholarship to Alexandra Kohr, Daughter of Jeff and Helen Kohr. This time of the year the aroma of fresh baked Christmas Cookies can be found in many homes; the aroma at the Smiley home must rival that of a cookie factory. Janet Smiley, the wife of local 776 Trustee Rob Smiley, bakes the cookies for the Children’s Christmas Party! If you’ve been to the party or looked at some of the photos from the party you know a lot of cookies get eaten; A LOT of cookies! This year Janet made six different varieties of cookies, a total of 250 dozen cookies- If you’re doing the math that’s 3,000 cookies! During a four-day span the Smiley kitchen resembles a production line as tray after tray of cookies are laid out, baked, and cooled. Rob’s right in the kitchen with Janet helping to keep the assembly line moving! Thank you Janet for your time and effort contributing to the party!

It has been a busy month at the Union Hall; the party, the dinner after the membership meeting, and getting all the extra toys moved in time for Christmas. In addition, the Local Union was contacted by Dauphin County Human Services; asking us to help move their Holiday donations from their warehouse to the Farm Show Complex for the 8th Annual holiday Celebration for families in need on Dec. 19th. Local 776 Secretary-Treasurer Ron Hicks and Business Agent Spencer Dearth used the Locals tractor-trailer to make the move for the Agency.

The Agency's rooms were full of items to be moved

We've got the equipment for times like this...

And the man power thanks to Ron and Spencer

This will help make a Merry Christmas for folks in Dauphin County
