    "SAFE JOBS- Every Worker's Right"

On April 28th the York-Adams County Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO observes Worker’s Memorial Day; in honor and remembrance of those who have been injured or died on the job.  Tragically, four work place deaths occurred in York County in 2017. Every worker has the right to a safe and healthy workplace. The labor movement continues to fight for workers’ health and safety.

In conjunction with Worker’s Memorial Day the Labor Council sponsors an essay contest for High School Seniors. This year’s winner, Trenton Squires, who attends Bermudian Springs High School, wrote on the effect that out-sourcing of American jobs to third-world countries for cheaper labor has on the workers in those countries that do not have many of the protections governing work place safety that workers in America have.

Presentation of colors begins the ceremony

Unions from the area joined in remebrance of the deceased workers

Essay winner Trenton Squires thanks the Labor Council

As our flag is lowered in honor of the deceased a lone bugler plays taps....
