  • At the conclusion of the December monthly membership meeting the members in attendance were treated to a Christmas dinner. Ham, Turkey, and all the extras to go with it were offered. During the dinner members had their pick of items including Teamster apparel, and Poinsettia plants.

“The monthly membership meetings are an important tool for getting information to the members. They are also important for building brotherhood among the members from the various employer groups we represent. I’m glad to see the members relaxing, enjoying the food, and enjoying each others company” commented President Ed Thompson.

Good food and fellowship! Merry Christmas!

On Saturday December 8, 2019 the Union Hall became Santa’s Christmas Land as Local 776 held its Christmas Party for members and retirees children and grandchildren. After a stop at Santa’s workshop for a gift next up was a visit with the Big Man himself! Followed by food, drinks, assorted sweet treats and a trip to the face painter!

Again this year the Smiley household was turned into a cookie factory as Local 776 Trustee Rob Smiley and his wife Janet baked approximately 2000 cookies for the event!

Taking a break from his kitchen duties President Ed Thompson was delighted at the crowd that filed the Hall. “Events like this help to provide quality time for our members and their families. With hurried work schedules, school schedules, and daily life activities time for gathering like this is important. As our name implies: the Brotherhood of Teamsters. I would like to thank the Officers, Agents, and Staff for all the time and effort put forth to insure the party was a success!”

The Union Hall was packed as family and friends got together to celebrate Christmas!

Santa and Mrs. Claus were kept busy with a steady stream of kids!

On December 1, 2018 Local 776 sponsored a Christmas for Kids party for children in York County’s WIC (women, infants, and children) program. This annual event is a community services project the Local undertakes in the York area. Each child received a gift and a chance to meet with Santa, along with a bag of treats to take home. After meeting with Santa there were snacks and refreshments available for the kids and their families. Party committee chairman Rob Smiley, a Local 776 Trustee, and 776 TITAN operator Mandy Day worked together through the year to make sure that over 100 children from some of the areas most needy families had a brighter Christmas. This year members of the Teamster Horsemen Chapter 53W played an active role in making sure the party was a success.

Local 776 President Ed Thompson commented, “Helping these kids have a brighter holiday is one way we give back to the community where our members live and work. I would like to thank the members of the committee and the Teamster Horsemen who put a lot of time and effort into making this event happen. I would also like to thank Bimbo Bakery (Stroehmann/ Maier’s), Canteen Foods Corp., and Navistar for their participation this year in helping these kids have brighter holiday.”

Plenty of gifts were ready to be opened!

Recently Local 776 participated in a York County United Way Day of Caring event focusing on pre-kindergarten through third grade literacy. Local 776 Business Agent Bill Olmeda, the Local’s representative to the United Way, contacted the IBT Education Dept. and arranged to have two cases of books that the IBT had published donated to the United Way for the event. The books donated were “No Ordinary Horses”, and “Oats and Roses”, both stories of horses named Thunder, and Lightning. A large number of volunteers, among them Local 776 member Bree Wilson, a patrol officer with the West York Borough Police Department, and Lisa Olmeda, wife of BA Bill Olmeda stressed the importance of learning to read by reading the stories to children at local day care centers in the York County area. In addition to the books being placed at day care centers they were also placed in little libraries and reading corners throughout the area.

Commented Local 776 President Ed Thompson; “ I would like to thank both Bree and Lisa for taking the time to sit and read to the kids. As I have mentioned before these kids are our future leaders, work force, and members. It’s up to us to see that they are prepared to meet the challenges of the future”.

Lisa Olmeda has the kids attention during this story!

These kids are all smiles after hearing Officer Bree Wilson read to them!
