  • Local 776 will be kicking off the Holiday Season with our Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday December 7, 2019. Hope to see you there!

On Thanksgiving Eve this story needs to be told: Black Friday is a little darker for 70 workers who are unsure how they will pay their bills or put food on the table this year. This month, workers at the Marciano Art Foundation were fired by  the Marciano family, the founders of Guess jeans and MAF, just four days after they petitioned to form their union with AFSCME Council 36 (California). By shuttering MAF’s doors, the Marcianos are destroying the livelihoods of their employees just as the holidays approach. On Black Friday, tell the Marciano family to respect workers' rights by joining workers to demonstrate outside of Guess stores and demand MAF workers be reinstated. For additional information on the Black Friday demonstration and to sign up to tell the Marciano family to respect workers' rights follow the link below:

    Black Friday Protest

On behalf of the Officers, Agents, Staff and myself, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. If you are traveling to gather with family and friends during the holiday please be safe. According to AAA More than 55 million travelers are expected to travel from their homes for the holiday.

We all have so much to be thankful for; while enjoying your Holiday please remember our military personnel, many who are away from their families and loved ones protecting the rights and liberties that we cherish in our great country. Lastly please find a place in your heart for those less fortunate than us and help them in any way that you can.

    Fraternally,

    Ed Thompson,

    President Teamsters Local 776

    The Labor Wire

On Tuesday, Election Day across America, the labor movement drove historic wins for pro-worker candidates like Governor-Elect Andy Beshear in Kentucky and new legislative majorities in Virginia. Not only did union members come out to vote in droves, 270 union member candidates were elected to public office Tuesday night and counting. This adds to the total of  more than 900 Union Members elected up and down the ballot in last year’s midterms, in which two-thirds of Union members running for office were elected.

“Our efforts recruiting, training and supporting labor candidates have led to the passage of pro-worker legislation from coast to coast and everywhere in between.” Commented AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

Tuesday November 5, 2019 is Election Day in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvanians will be electing many local officials including County Commissioners and County Row Officers. Many of these positions directly affect how your local tax dollars are spent. As Americans we enjoy the right to vote; free to support the candidate of your choice without fear of reprisal, a right most of us take for granted but denied people in other parts of the world. Today let your voice be heard, make your vote count!

The winnig numbers in the PA Daily Lottery for October 29, 2019 were #373,and #724. Todd Garlock from UPS Freight was the $1000 winner with ticket #373. Allison Libhart was the $500 winner with ticket #724. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets to help support the Teamster Horsemen charities.

Going on strike against an employer is not taken lightly; tension and emotions run high. In the absence of a paycheck individuals ask themselves “How will I support my family? What about my healthcare? When will we get back to work? Recently UAW workers along the east coast, including a local parts remanufacturing facility in Middletown, PA walked off their jobs after contract negotiations with MACK Trucks were fruitless.

In a show of solidarity in support of the striking UAW workers Local 776 Business Agents and Local Organizer Mark Cicak brought water and drinks to the striking UAW members and walked their picket line with them. Letting them know that their fight is our fight, and we will support them throughout. Like the Local’s truck says: “People Helping People”

Second from Left: Local 776 BA's Dave Wolf, Dave Vrona, and Dave Licht spent some time supporting the UAW members on the strike line.
