Recently Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf appointed Local 776 President Ed Thompson to the PA. Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC). Act 21 of the State Legislature established the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) in 2001. The Committee shall have the power and duty to assess, evaluate, and recommend standards for the safe operation of motor carriers in this Commonwealth.
The Committee consists of 28 members as follows:
• Secretary of Transportation
• Chairman of the Public Utility Commission
• Chairman of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission
• Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police
• Majority and Minority Chairmen of the Senate Transportation Committee
• Majority and Minority Chairmen of the House Transportation Committee
• 20 public members
Of the twenty public members from various industries and trade groups President Thompson will be the one representing the interests of motor carrier drivers.
With a large number of the Local’s members working in the transportation industry Ed’s appointment will make sure that their concerns will be voiced to the committee and that their health and safety regulations while on the job will be protected.
When asked about his appointment by the Governor Ed commented: “I am honored that Governor Wolf has appointed me to this committee and look forward to working with the members of the committee to insure that our members working in the transportation industry have a voice in Harrisburg concerning problems associated with travel as passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and motor carriers share the road systems”.
