  • Happy Retirement!
    Updated On: Nov 30, 2016

Recently a long-time Local 776 member decided it was time to start a new chapter in his life. Melvin “Mel” Harris, a 37 year employee of UPS decided it was time to stop pushing packages and join the ranks of the retired. While Mel spent his time at UPS working at the Harrisburg Hub he was active in the Local Union. Mel was a Steward for 30 years, and served on the Executive board for 4 1/2 years. Recognizing the importance of getting officials elected who share our views Mel was active with the Local’s political action committee; going out to the polls on election day to help get out the vote. When the Local would go out to the employer’s location with the Union truck and grill to meet with the members while serving hot dogs and drinks Mel could be found working the grill, introducing the members to the Local’s Officers and Agents.

Mel’s family, friends, and co-workers sent him off to retirement with a party at the Harrisburg American Legion. Mel is married to Phyllice; they have a daughter and two grandchildren. Their plans include spending more time with the grand kids and to do some traveling while enjoying retirement. At the party Local 776 President Ed Thompson congratulated Mel on his long career and thanked him for his time serving the Local Union.

Local Pres. Ed Thompson congratulates Mel

Mel's on the road to retirement!

Friends, family, and co-workwers gathered to wish Mel good luck
